She offered condolences to the families of the victims, wished for the speedy recovery of the injured, and urged Congress workers in the region to assist the injured, support families, and aid authorities in relief efforts.Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s flight landed in Chennai on Saturday following the tragic stampede at his Karur rally, where the death toll has climbed to 28 amid the ongoing relief operations.Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav condoled the Karur stampede deaths in Tamil Nadu, offering prayers and expressing sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident.The death toll in the Karur stampede during actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally has risen to 38, with several others still undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals.The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the party headed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, issued a statement on the Karur stampede and said that the party leader condoled the loss of lives in the incident. The statement read:I am deeply saddened and pained to learn that 36 people, including 8 children and 16 women, have died so far in a stampede at a political campaign rally of the Tamil Nadu Victory Party held in Karur today (27.9.2025).
The priceless loss of lives has shaken the hearts of all of us. I express my deepest sorrow and condolences to the families who are facing an irreparable loss. I have ordered that all those admitted to hospitals for treatment be given the best possible treatment.
I have sent the Hon'ble Minister of School Education and the Minister of Health and Public Welfare to expedite special arrangements for medical treatment. Furthermore, the District Magistrates of Trichy, Salem and Dindigul have been sent to Karur along with medical teams. I have ordered an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each from the Chief Minister's General Relief Fund to the families of those who died in this tragic incident and Rs 1 lakh each to those who are undergoing intensive treatment in hospitals.
Further, a one-person inquiry commission headed by retired High Court Justice Mrs. Aruna Jagatheesan will be immediately constituted to conduct a proper investigation into the incident and submit a report to the government. I will be going to Karur tonight to meet the families of those who lost their lives in the above tragic incident, to express my condolences and to meet those undergoing treatment in the hospital.The Tamil Nadu government has announced Rs 10 lakh each as compensation for the families of the victims of the Karur stampede incident, which broke out during a political rally held by TVK chief Vijay on Saturday."Compensation of Rs 10 lakh will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives in the Karur tragedy.
