Didn't allow him to sleep: Zubeen Garg's bandmate blames manager, fellow musician

Days after the death of Zubeen Garg shocked the nation, his bandmate Partha Pratim Goswami has accused Siddharth Sharma, Garg's manager, and fellow bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami of negligence and carelessness. He criticised them for allowing someone who had been drinking and partying all night, and who did not get any sleep, to go swimming in the sea despite knowing that Zubeen Garg was a seizure patient.According to Partha Pratim Goswami, Siddharth and Shekhar prevented Garg from resting and took him to the sea for their own enjoyment, a decision he described as a reckless mistake he will never forgive."The greatest negligence and carelessness were on the part of Siddharth (Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma) and Shekhar (bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami). You two, who stay close to Zubeen like shadows, brought someone who hadn’t slept and had been drinking and partying all night to swim in the sea, fully aware that Zubeen is a seizure patient. How could you do that?,” Partha Pratim Goswami said“You didn’t let him sleep and insisted on taking him to the sea just because you wanted to have fun. I will never forgive them for this reckless mistake for as long as I live,” he added.Meanwhile, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, so far: Siddharth Sharma, the singer’s manager; Shyamkanu Mahanta, the event organiser; bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami; and musician Amritprava Mahanta. Murder charges have now been filed against them.Zubeen Garg, renowned for his Bollywood and Assamese songs, passed away on September 19 while swimming near an island in Singapore. He was on a yacht outing accompanied by Goswami and Mahanta at the time. The singer, famous for the hit ‘Ya Ali,’ had traveled to Singapore to perform at the North East India Festival, which was organised by Mahanta and his company.Additionally, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday also summoned two prominent figures from Assam’s entertainment industry, actor Vaishali Medhi and singer Meghna Borpuzari, for questioning.According to the detailed arrest report submitted by the SIT, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has made serious allegations against Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, citing suspicious behaviour in the hours leading up to the singer’s death.Goswami alleged that Sharma, who was staying with Zubeen at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore, acted oddly before the tragic incident. During their yacht outing, Sharma allegedly took control of the vessel from the sailor, endangering those on board. He also claimed that Sharma insisted on handling the supply of drinks, directing Tanmoy Phukan of the Assam Association Singapore not to make any arrangements.During the interrogation, Goswami told authorities that when Zubeen began struggling to breathe while swimming, Sharma reportedly shouted, “Jabo de, jabo de” (let him go), and later dismissed the visible frothing from the singer’s mouth and nose as mere "acid reflux," telling others not to worry. He further told investigators that Zubeen, a strong swimmer who had trained both Sharma and himself, was unlikely to have drowned without other contributing factors. Sharma also allegedly instructed others not to share any videos from the yacht outing. However, authorities have consistently claimed that these claims remain unverified until further evidence can confirm them. “Witnesses can say anything in their statements. The police’s role is to record them. The investigation will determine whether an accused is defending themselves or trying to mislead the probe,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.Officials confirmed that the cause of death will largely depend on the viscera report, which is anticipated to be released on October 10. We should have clearer answers by October 11,” Sarma added.
